While constructing an addition for this facility, Eastman was met with several obstacles. Aside from strict time constraints, there was limited access to the site. During the design phase of the project, it was discovered that the soil was unsuitable to support the foundation of the addition. After researching several options, a Helical Pile Stabilizing system was used to reinforce the foundation. The system proved to be not only cost effective, but was effective in minimizing noise levels, vibrations and shock waves to the existing residents. |

Eastman has completed steel reinforcing projects in several facilities throughout New Jersey. Projects require reinforcing the existing structural supports for dense file systems and heavy equipment with new freestanding tie-in superstructure to existing building. Often the facility is fully occupied and operational at the time of the work. |

At St. Matthews A.M.E., the project at the main building consisted of repairing damage to the existing structure, completing alterations and an expansion of the Sanctuary (which now boasts 700 seats). The project also included the addition of a 22,000 square foot facility consisting of new offices, a chapel, bookstore, kitchen, lounge, elevator and bathrooms. This job emanated out of the joint team venture between Eastman Jacobs and Eastman Construction. |
